Our story

A market that knows its customers by name

Bay Area European Market & Deli exists for a simple reason: the foods people miss most are the hardest ones to find. We stock them, one shelf at a time.

What the market is about

Walk in on a weekday morning and you'll see what kind of store this is. Regulars greeted in more than one language. A conversation at the deli counter about which smoked sausage goes best in a soup. Someone discovering that we carry the exact chocolate their grandmother used to keep in a dish by the door.

Our shelves lean Eastern European and Turkish — the traditions our family knows firsthand — with Russian, Ukrainian, and Bulgarian staples alongside imports from across the continent. We choose products the way a home cook does: because someone asked for them, because they taste like the real thing, because a meal isn't right without them.

And because a specialty market lives on trust, we pay attention to the details that matter — freshness, honest labeling, and telling you plainly when something is out of stock and when the next shipment lands.

The longer story

We're putting our history into words

Every market like ours carries a longer story — of family, immigration, and years spent learning this food from the inside. We're working with the owners to tell that story properly, in their own words, rather than publish a version that isn't checked. It will live here soon.

In the meantime, the best introduction is the store itself. Come in, say hello, and ask about anything on the shelves.

Concord & the East Bay

Rooted in the neighborhood

Concord has always been a city of many kitchens, and we're proud to be one of its pantries. Our customers come from around the corner and from across Contra Costa County — Pleasant Hill, Walnut Creek, Martinez, Clayton — some weekly for bread and deli meats, some once a year for holiday chocolates.

If you're new to European food, you're just as welcome. Tell us what you like, and we'll send you home with something worth coming back for.
